It has been a while since I participated in Illustration Friday. I’ve had the inclination but, sadly, not the time. As I am happily off from work this week, I found the time to do a second version of a sketch that I originally did last January.
My year 2006 began with news of the death of my High School friend, Rachel Orli. I completely lost touch with her after high school – I think she wanted to make a clean break as she hadn’t has the best time of it. I’d been trying to locate her for years. Unfortunately for me, she had died about 2 years before I could find her.
Rachel would probably be stunned to know how much she positively influenced my life and helped make me the person I am. Even though I haven’t seen or spoken with her in over 15 years, I still miss her and I always will.

Beautiful, peaceful place, but also, bittersweet, as the history of the inspiration for this piece is.

Very sad about your friend, but a beautiful piece. I love the touch of red in the sea of gray. Good to see you back!

Mishka,
Our friend would be honored how you have memorialized her. She had an amazing impact on my life as well. Shw should me the strengh I never knew I had in me.She made it okay not to conform to everyones ideals. She was a terrific friend. I hope that someway, when she passed, that she knew that she made a difference in someone’s life.
