This is funny. I have discovered I have to act like it’s spring in order to get the right feeling inside me in order to paint a spring image. I did this with winter too. “Art-Acting!” Stay tuned for Summer Bunny.
Autumn BunnyWinter Bunny My friend, Christel, and I were comparing notes tonight on artist’s stumbling blocks while I was painting. I am learning so much from just the actual DOING of art… once I got beyond step 1, which is that not every piece will be a masterpiece (Accept that and stop trying to edit yourself while you’re drawing. Just let it come out. Sometimes it’s better than you could have possibly expected. Sometimes it fights with you. Just get it done and move on to the next). Edit: 9.29.06 Jason says that Spring Bunny is perfect for Illustration Friday’s topic, “Quiet,” this week and insisted I submit it. Also, just a quick opinion poll… Do you like the chick the way he is or should I change him so he’s also watching the sunset?

I wasn’t planning to do the topic this week but I drew this sketch in the 15 minutes I had to wait at the allergist’s after getting my shots. I’m kind of on a color kick, even though I need the inking practice. So I scanned the pencil sketch before I inked it so I could digi-paint it. I always like my colors better than my inks…
… but how else can I improve my inking? Of course, I COULD color my inks, like I did with the previous post. But it’s 2am so it’s time to stop. By the way, the next “Friday the Thirteenth” will be next month.
After a bit of a struggle (it just didn’t want to get colored), I finally got this piece done. I still have a bunch of assignments on deck but I feel like I finally got over this hurdle! I hate when art just doesn’t cooperate.
Here is a slightly more detailed crop.
After I finished
I couldn’t stand it anymore, I’m boring myself. I wanted to do something in color again. So I stayed up late and finished this little one off tonight. Dayjob may suffer a little for it in the morning but oh well. I got inspired by the cornfields of Delaware to my east and the Blue Ridge Mountains to my west, the coming of autumn, and yes, a bunny.
Ok so I’m on vacation… I was sitting out on the screened-in porch of my in-laws house yesterday watching their cats watch the birds at the feeders. After I drew this, I realized it was perfect for this weeks topic. I aim to finish it all up when I get home. In the meantime, this is a shap-shot of my sketchbook that I took with my cellphone! Ok yeah, I’m a geek.
